Artist Statement
In my creative efforts I have always strived to maintain a balance between the serious issues of painting and the playfulness that personal expression allows each of us. I enjoy painting immensely and I think it shows through in my paintings and other creations with the red house. When I first painted this red house, I liked it so much that I decided to paint it until I got sick of it and this soon became a conceptual piece about commitment. 36 years later I continue to follow this commitment and paint the red house with as much enthusiasm as I did on that first day I painted it. I feel that the individual works that have been created out of this commitment are adventures along the way. In each piece the house is in a different setting, doing something new and eventually joined by the truck, the car, a pine tree and the hills. Through all these years the red house and these other symbols have been, and still are, the focal point in my work.
